The “MSPaint Masterpiece”

The MSPaint Masterpieces Series: Georges-Pierre Seurat – Sunday Afternoon on the Island…

Created by LiveJournal blogger Jamie Power:

“Seurat spent two years crafting his masterpiece, ‘Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte’. He employed a revolutionary painting technique known as ‘pointillism’. Pointillism is pain-staking, requiring much skill and patience. But as you can see the mspaint ‘spray’ tool makes the technique totally obsolete.”

“(Actually, to be honest, this turned out a bit better than I expected. The spray tool is really balls, though.)”

Seurat Revisited With Billboard Reflectors

Art collector Mari Shaw, with Stuart Netsky’s Grande Jatte. Source: Flickr

From an interview in Philadelphia City Paper with American artist Stuart Netsky:

His artwork similarly combines wild imagination and mind-boggling precision. In his “flicker” paintings he recreates masterpieces of modern art using thousands of large sequin-like reflectors usually found on highway billboards; his version of a detail from Georges Seurat’s A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte shimmers in the breeze from an open window.

The photos show American art collector Mari Shaw in front of Stuart Netsky’s Grande Jatte. An interview with Mari is here. Below is another photo (on Flickr).

The Seurat interpretation was a collective work by students of the school. Véronique Juan now has her own design studio in the South of France. You can find many of her works on her website.

Interactive Coloring Page

Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte for DIY artists. Click for source

On Scrapcoloring.com:

A coloring page of the very famous painting from the French painter Georges Seurat “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte”. It is an adaptation of the painting, I didn’t include all the characters as it would have made the coloring page too difficult. Georges Seurat is the inventor of the pointillism style, also known as neo-impressionism. I added a pointillist pattern on ScrapColoring with distinct dots of colors (in theory one need to use primary colors, additive or substractive). As the title indicates, the painting represents an island. The water can be seen on the right, and even the sails of a boat. Women have umbrellas, there are many children, a dog, and even a monkey on a leash!

This is an Easter Postcard published by Hallmark. Bunnies and ducklings have taken over La Grande Jatte. It appears that this card is not part of the current Halmark collection. The image was found on Postcardy, a blog about postcards.
